Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is scheduled to open the Melaka-level "Hadhari" Village at the Tanjung Bidara beach square in Alor Gajah on Saturday.
State Human Resource, Health and Consumer Affairs Committee Chairman Datuk Abdul Karim Sulaiman said today the opening, at 9.30am, would coincide with Abdullah's one-day visit to Melaka.
"About 50,000 people are expected to attend the function and listen to the speech to be delivered by the prime minister," he told reporters at the Melaka Media House.
Abdul Karim, who is the state assemblyman for Tanjung Bidara and co-chairman of the event, said 10 exhibition stalls on the principles of Islam Hadhari (Civilisational Islam) would be set up over a one kilometre distance along the road from the square to Balai Cerap in Kampung Balik Batu.
Operators of small and medium enterprises and government departments and agencies as well as village development and security committees would also set up stalls.
"The organisers are trying to get the country's first astronaut Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor Sheikh Mustapha to meet the people and talk of his space adventure," he said.
Abdul Karim said Abdullah would also launch the Federation of Malay Economic Bodies (Gabem) for the southern region at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh at 11am.
At 2pm, Abdullah would open the Masjid Jamek in Jasin and at 4.30pm officiate a flood mitigation project in Durian Tunggal, Alor Gajah.
He said the prime minister would wind up his visit to the state by taking a boat ride on the Melaka River and going on a stroll along Jonker Walk in Bandar Hilir.
